- The Boxer’s trainer, Billy Nelson, has issued a bold challenge to the former heavyweight champion
- The 30-year-old has only lost one of his last 20 professional fights
Martin Bakole is believed to be the next big thing to emerge from the boxing world of Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Congolese boxer has his manager currently negotiating an agreement for a fight with the camp of Dylian Whyte.
Recent talks about a fight with former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, have seen the light due to stalling of negotiations for the proposed WBC final eliminator between the Bronze Bomber and Andy Ruiz Jr.
Amidst these clouds of negotiations and uncertainty, the Congolese boxer trainer has not held back his thoughts on the potential the fighter possesses.
Nelson speaks on Bakole
Nelson firmly believes in the ability of the 30-year-old and has not held back his thoughts. During a recent interview with Sky Sports, the trainer made clear Bakole would not hesitate to fight Wilder to set up a heavyweight title bout.
"There's absolutely no hesitation, if Andy Ruiz and Wilder doesn't get made, for Martin to fight Wilder
"Wilder says he wants to fight the best. Well, let's get No 1 and No 2 in the WBA [rankings].
Get that on in America on a pay-per-view card, and the winner moves on to a world title fight."
Nelson backs his fighter and exudes absolute confidence in Bakole's prospects against the former champion.
"Martin will stop Deontay Wilder," he said. "He's far too skilful for him and will eventually get to him."
After his sole career defeat to US Olympian Michael Hunter in 2018, Bakole has steadily risen through the ranks, securing victory in his eight subsequent bouts.
