Poland’s Lukasz Rozanski is the current champion and won the title by beating the previously unbeaten Alen Babic.

Lerena won the Bridgerweight Silver title and the right to challenge Rozanski when he defeated Ryad Merhy, IOL reported.

As noted by BoxingScene, the WBC have instructed Rozanski to enter into talks with Lerena for his mandatory title defence.

Both camps were issued a letter from the WBC’s President, Mauricio Sulaiman, informing them they could enter free negotiations for the fight between the champion and challenger.

“If no agreement is reached between parties, the WBC will conduct a purse offer pursuant to the WBC Rules and Regulations,” the letter read.

Lerena’s previous title experience

'Two Guns' is no stranger to winning titles, but is yet to win a belt from one of the four major governing bodies of boxing.

As noted by News24, Lerena previously won the BO Intercontinental Heavyweight title. He was also the IBO Cruiserweight champion from 2017 to 2021.

Lerena also competed for the WBA Regular Heavyweight belt but was controversially beaten by Daniel Dubois. As noted by The Mirror, Dubois was knocked down three times in the fight, but rallied back to stop the South African.

Lerena fights for heavyweight title

Sports Brief reported that Kevin 'Two Guns' Lerena was looking to make heavyweight boxing history in London in December.

The South African boxer took on Britain’s Daniel Dubois for the WBA (Regular) World Heavyweight Title on December 3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The WBC heavyweight title bout between Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora headlined the event.
