FootballOleksandr Usyk to Defend His Heavyweight Titles Against Daniel Dubois in August
- Oleksandr Usyk's fight with Daniel Dubois is set
- The Ukrainian's team has won the purse bids meaning he will put the WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight belts on the line
- The bout is set for August 12th in Wroclaw, Poland
Oleksandr Usyk is set to defend his WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight belts against Daniel Dubois in Poland this August after the Ukrainian's promoter, Alex Krassyuk, won the purse bid.
This comes after the Ukrainian's plan to take on Tyson Fury in an undisputed showdown at Wembley Stadium in April collapsed.
K2 Promotion's Alex Krassyuk said the plan is for the 36-year-old to face the WBA's top contender in August, 12 in Wroclaw, Poland. Usyk's camp earned the promotional rights to the bout with a winning bid of $8.06 million, per ESPN.
Usyk has a 20-0 record since he turned professional, and his incredible back-to-back wins over UK's Anthony Joshua cemented his status as one of the best heavyweight boxers in the last few years.
“We won the bid,” Usyk’s promoter wrote on Twitter on Thursday. “Looking to stage the fight in Wroclaw, Poland on August 12th,” via the Independent.
With the fight against Dubios now set, Usyik's showdown with Tyson Fury who holds the WBC belt will have to wait until later this year. The two boxers have exchanged words over failed negotiations.
Dubois resilience
For Dubois, it will be his first bout since he beat Kevin Lerena in December. In that fight, he rallied from the brink of disaster to win. He was dropped three times in the first round but successfully defended his WBA 'regular' belt with a third-round stoppage.
After losing his first professional bout to fellow British heavyweight boxer Joe Joyce in November 2020, Dubois bounced back with four consecutive stoppage wins and is now 19-1 (18) in the paid ranks, per Sky Sports.
The 25-year-old Londoner recently parted ways with trainer Shane McGuigan and now employs the services of Don Charles, who previously worked with British heavyweight Derek Chisora.

FootballUsyk taunts Fury
Sports Brief earlier reported on Usyk taunting Fury as the showdown between the two draws closer.
Fury called Usyk into the ring and began calling him a little sausage.
Not to be outdone, Usyk has started referring to the British boxer as Belly, a direct reference to Fury’s physique.
