  • Gervonta Davis will face bitter rival Ryan Garcia in a catchweight bout on April 22
  • Both Davis and Garcia will need to weigh 136 pounds or less during the weigh-in
  •  Most fighters, trainers and promoters have their say in the much-anticipated bout

One of the biggest fights of the year will take place on Saturday night when Ryan Garcia and Gervonta "Tank" Davis finally face off.

The Las Vegas fight is a mouth-watering contest because both boxers are in the prime of their careers, have excellent knockout ratios, and are undefeated.

Davis has the advantage in terms of experience, having previously won world titles in the super featherweight division, and he has knocked out all but two opponents he has faced.

Since Davis has won world championships in the super featherweight division in the past and has knocked out all but two of his opponents, he has the advantage in experience.

Garcia, however, is noticeably taller, has lightning-quick hands, and also has a punch.

Davis is the betting favorite going into the fight, but most fighters, trainers, and promoters think it will be much closer.

Joe Joyce – Olympic silver medallist and heavyweight contender

“I’m picking ‘Tank’ because I think he’s very patient when he’s fighting and he’s looking to land that big shot,” Joyce told talkSPORT.
“Whereas Ryan Garcia he’s the faster puncher and will be peppering him, but I think Tank will be patient and wait to nail him with something.
“I think it’s a 50/50 fight and it will be great to watch, but I think Gervonta Davis is edging it for me.”

Tony Bellew – Former cruiserweight world champion

“Both are excellent fighters and if they do what they do well then, I think it’s going to come down to who has the most on the night,” Bellew wrote in his column for DAZN.
“For me, that man is Davis and that’s just because he has so much power and I think he’ll land a huge shot some point late in the fight.
“Garcia will start quick, and I expect him to be in front when the fight gets into the later rounds, but Davis will be patient and when he does find the target of Garcia, I think that’ll be enough to end a memorable encounter. I can’t wait.”

Devin Haney – Undisputed lightweight world champion

Having sparred both men in the past, Haney has extra insight into this fight and he has predicted in an interview with iD Boxing:

“Ryan has the height, the speed, the length and all that, but Tank has that IQ, experience and power.
“The safe bet is Tank but you cannot sleep on Ryan, he definitely can punch, he’s shown that, so we gotta see.”

Shane Mosley – Former three weight world champion

“I’m leaning towards Garcia because he’s bigger, not because I believe he’s a better fighter technically,” Mosley told Sporting News.
“I believe he’s bigger and he has the goods to be the bigger fighter. I think he can hit Tank with shots that he’s never been hit with, and I think the size, height, and speed is gonna be a problem.”

Roy Jones Jr – Former four weight world champion

“Tank has a lot more tools than people think and Garcia is a much better fighter than people think, Jones said, via iD Boxing.
“Garcia has been dropped by [Luke Campbell], who is not a bad fighter either, but if [Campbell] can drop him then we know Tank can drop him.
“But, how much punishment will Tank endure before he drops him, so the point is who can get their game plan in action first.
“If Garcia can get comfortable boxing Tank and keeping him on the outside, then Garcia can win the fight.
“If he gets comfortable and relaxes and runs low on engine towards the end of the fight, Tank knows how to become and dog and start walking you down.
“If he gets to that point without too much damage, he can get to Garcia, so it’s a pick-em fight.”

Davis' team introduces rehydration clause

Sports Brief earlier reported that Ryan Garcia agreed to that stipulation and thought the deal was finally sealed. Gervonta Davis’ team threw another surprise, inserting a rehydration clause for Garcia to follow.

Usually, in boxing, once the fighter makes the weight limit during the weigh-in, his focus switches to the fight. That isn’t the case for Garcia, who must watch his intake before the fight, with Davis’ team introducing a 10-pound rehydration clause.

That means if Garcia weighs 136 pounds during the weigh-in, he needs to enter the fight weighing 146 pounds or less. If he goes over the 146-pound limit, the fight is off.
