Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. was born in Floyd Joy Sinclair, Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, on February 24, 1977. He was born with his mum's last name, but his last name changed to Mayweather shortly after. The boxer has three sisters, Fannie Orr, Deltricia Tawanna Howard, Fatimah Mayweather (sister), and one half-brother named Justin Mayweather Jones.

Floyd used to accompany his father to gyms and throw punches at anything. In 1978, his dad was shot in the leg and sentenced to prison in 1993 for drug trafficking. Floyd lived in Hiram Square, New Brunswick, New Jersey, in the 1980s.
