Ghanaian Boxer Isaac Dogboe to Face America's Joet Gonzalez on July 23

Ghanaian boxer Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe is in line to make a July return against America’s Joet Gonzalez in a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) featherweight contest.

The ten-round featherweight bout will now headline a July 23 Top Rank show on ESPN+ in Hinckley, Minnesota.

According to Boxing Scene, the upgrade came about after Top Rank decided to relocate its originally scheduled main event between former champions Jose Pedraza and Richard Commey to an August 27 show on an ESPN platform.

In a post on Twitter, sighted by Sports Brief, Dogboe announced that his upcoming bout has been moved as the main event of the July 23 card.

“God is great”, tweeted the former WBO junior featherweight titlist. “I got good news today from Carl Moretti (Director of Operations for Top Rank) that I’ve been elevated to Main Event for July 23rd fight. Let’s gooooooo! NEHOOO!!!”

Dogboe (23-2, 15KOs) is returning to the ring for the first time in 2022.

In his last fight, the former WBO junior featherweight champion outpointed former title challenger Christopher Diaz over ten rounds last November 20.

Gonzalez (25-2, 15KOs) comes into the fight on the back of a ninth-round stoppage of Jeo Santisima on March 4 in Fresno, California.

The American lost a unanimous decision in favour of WBO featherweight titlist Emanuel Navarrete (35-1, 29KOs) last October in San Diego.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghanaian boxer, Isaac Dogboe, has thanked Ghanaians and his fans across the globe for their mammoth show of support during his fight against Christopher Diaz.

Dogbe outclassed his opponent in Las Vegas to win the bout by majority decision, which gets him close to a title fight.

In a heartwarming message on Twitter, the young pugilist expressed gratitude to Ghanaians as he continues his new run of success in the sport.
