Wladimir Klitschko has been in many tough fights during his career, but the former world champion is arguably facing his toughest battle yet.
Klitschko is on the front lines of Russia’s war on Ukraine as he looks to defend his country against Vladimir Putin’s unwarranted invasion of his homeland.
Klitschko enlisted in the Ukrainian Reserve Army shortly after Russian troops invaded the country. His brother Vitali is the current Mayor of Kyiv.
Speaking on Piers Morgan’s show, Uncensored, Klitschko called on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to ban all Russian athletes, SABC Sport confirmed.
Many sporting bodies have suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes since the start of the war in February, but the IOC has allowed athletes to compete under a neutral flag.
“The IOC should ban the Russian team now. The war is going now, they cannot participate at the next Olympic games, they cannot participate at any athletic events because this war is represented by Russia,” he said.
Klitschko also talked about the situation in the country and the terrible war crimes he has witnessed, Boxing247 reported.
“I saw with my own eyes all the civilians that had been tortured, with their hands tied behind their backs, with a gunshot in the head – executed. There are so many children that have been suffering, killed or injured.”
Klitschko used the interview to thank the allies who have pledged support to his country and to praise his fellow countrymen and women who have done so much to defend their country, some even losing their lives in the process.

FootballFurious Klitschko Brothers break silence over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as crisis escalates
Former world heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko has declared that he is ready to take up arms alongside his brother, fellow former champion Wladimir, as Russia invades their home country Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had declared a "specialised military operation" in Ukraine's Donbas region and warned the international community not to interfere, Sports Brief earlier reported.
Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that no fewer than 137 people had been killed while 316 are injured as tension continues to escalate. Vitali Klitschko has been a mayor in Kyiv since 2014, says he is prepared to fight along with his brother.
