In September, Tirop ran in the 10-kilometre race to claim victory in an event hosted in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

Thanks to her victory, Tirop became the fastest woman over 10km in a strictly women-only race.

She set the new world record time of 30:01, beating the previous feat of 30:29, held by Asmae Leghzaoui of Morocco which had been standing since 2002.

In the race dubbed Road to Records, Tirop led a clean Kenyan sweep in the race featuring Adidas’ best athletes including compatriot Shelia Chepkirui.

However, the impressive record by the late Tirop is among those yet to be ratified as the year draws to a close.

The athlete's body was found in a pool of blood on the morning of Wednesday, October 13, with stab wounds believed to have been inflicted on her by her lover Ibrahim Rotich.

An autopsy report revealed that 25-year-old olympian Agnes Tirop died of stab wounds on the neck and a blunt force trauma on the head.

Rotich was arraigned before Magistrate Charles Kutwa on Monday, October 18, where the prosecution sought more time to detain him.

He will stay in custody four more months.
