- The United States of America dominates the list of the fastest men in the world this year, ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics
- Defending champion, Marcell Jacobs of Italy, makes the list despite being off-colour since his surprise win in Tokyo in 2021
The national trials of different countries for the 2024 Paris Olympics have provided athletes with a platform to drop ridiculous times.
The cutthroat competition to make it to France has seen the athletes leave their best in the trials while the Kenyan trials on June 14 and 15 delivered some insane performances.
Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, became the first person to dip under 9.8 seconds in the 100m this season.

Faith Kipyegon and Emmanuel Wanyonyi posted impressive times in the women's 1,500m and men's 800m, respectively.
Main contenders in 100m at Paris 2024 Olympics
The 100m is expected to be a major crowd-puller in Paris, considering there is still no specific heir apparent to Usain Bolt's throne. Noah Lyles had a decent outing at the 2023 World Athletics Championships and will be keen on following that up with a first gold medal at the Olympics.
Reigning champion, Marcell Jacobs, has been out of shape since winning the surprise gold medal in Tokyo. Lyles will be challenged by 2022 World Champion, Fred Kerley, a legion of Jamaican athletes led by Oblique Seville, the African duo of Omanyala and Letsile Tebogo, among others.
As it stands, the title of the world's fastest man in 2024 goes to Kishane Thompson. The 22-year-old ran 9.77 seconds at the Jamaica trials to not only set the world lead but also storm into the top 10 fastest men of all time.

AthleticsOmanyala's time of 9.79 seconds at the Kenyan trials two weeks earlier comes in second, with Seville wrapping up the top three with 9.82 seconds.
Though impressive on paper, the times point to little to no signs that Bolt's record of 9.58 seconds will be threatened this summer. Of the current crop of athletes, Christian Coleman has the fastest time of 9.76 seconds, but the 2019 World Champion failed to make the cut for Paris.
