Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, highly favoured before the race, finished fifth in 10.93 seconds.

As reported by Citizen, Bednarek, who considered Omanyala a worthy rival, improved his performance from the previous edition, where he won the silver.

Other results at the Kip Keino Classic

World champion Mary Moraa clocked 1:57.96 to successfully defend her women's 800m title.

"The atmosphere was great, and I want to thank the fans for turning up in large numbers," she said after the race, as quoted by The Standard.

Nelly Chepchirchir (1:58.26) and Vivian Chebet (1:58.93) secured second and third place, respectively. Chepchirchir, Chebet, and fourth-placed Nelly Jepkosgei also qualified for the Paris Olympics. It marked Moraa's third victory, paced by her sister Sarah, after winning in 2021 and 2023.

Wiseman Were, Commonwealth Games 4x400m relay bronze medallist, set a meet record of 48.57 to win the men’s 400m hurdles, effectively meeting the qualifying mark for the Olympics. Kipkorir Rotich finished in second place with a season-best of 50.39, while Edward Ngunjiri clocked 50.84, also achieving a season-best.

Omanyala blanks BBC Sports journalist

Sports Brief reported that Omanyala weirdly left a journalist hanging during a post-match interview at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow.

He made light work of his fourth heat, crossing the line with 6.53 seconds to book his spot in the semi-finals.

The 28-year-old, however, had an uneasy moment after replays showed that he had strayed out of his line and stepped onto Brendon Rooney's path.
