Ghanaian sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah blazed his way into winning gold in the 200m final at the African Games.

Amoah makes history by becoming the first Ghanaian to win the 200m race at the African Games since Ohene Karihkari in 1973.

The former Prempeh College runner started the race a bit slow but gained momentum in the final 100m, where he charged his way past Bongogne.

Before the 200m race, there were concerns about his seriousness after he was spotted jogging to his finishes in the heat and the semi-final.

However, it seemed he was reserving some energy for the final.

Compatriot, Ibrahim Fuseini, finished fourth, missing out on the podium as Ghana and Nigeria continued their dominance on the track.

This is the second medal for Amoah at the African Games after winning silver in the 4X100m race.

Sports Brief also reported that in a thrilling showdown in the men's 4x100-meter relay, Team Nigeria outpaced their rivals Ghana, by a margin of two microseconds to seize gold at the 2023 African Games in Accra.

The Nigerian quartet, composed of Sunday Israel Okon, Ekanem Consider, Akintola Alaba Olukunle, and Itsekiri Usheoritse, avenged their defeat against their Ghanaian counterparts, who had snatched the gold medal five years ago in Rabat, Morocco.
