"We have made a breakthrough in arresting the suspects in custody, and they will be arraigned in court on Tuesday. The two are the ones who were captured on the CCTV footage that is in our possession," Okal told The Nation.

Kiplagat, renowned for his 2008 World Junior 3,000m steeplechase silver medal, was discovered lifeless in Kimumu estate, Uasin Gishu County.

Moiben Sub-county police officers promptly arrived around 5 a.m. to investigate. Tragically, Kiplagat was found with stab wounds to his chest and a deep cut on his neck, as reported by the BBC.

The damage was reportedly inflicted by assailants who used a motorcycle to obstruct his path, resulting in a collision with his vehicle.

A native of Marakwet East, Kiplagat had been training in Eldoret and its surroundings before pursuing his athletic endeavours in Uganda. He represented Uganda in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, narrowly missing the podium with a fourth-place finish.

Additionally, he participated in the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, securing the 10th position, and the 2012 Olympic Games in London, United Kingdom, reaching the semifinals.

Kiplagat's achievements extended to winning a bronze medal at the Africa Championships in Porto Novo, Benin, in 2012.
