Some of the prominent names in the team include the defending champion for the men's title and former world record holder, Eliud Kipchoge. The veteran marathoner also won the men's title in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Another name in the men's team is Kelvin Kiptum, the world record holder who has run in just three marathons. He clocked an insane 2:00:35 to take 34 seconds off Kipchoge's world record, per World Athletics.

The women's team is star-studded, just like the men's provisional team. It has women who have won marathons and broken world records.

Hellen Obriri, winner of the Boston Marathon and New York Marathon in 2023, is in the team. Former World Record holder, Brigid Kosgei is also on the list as is London Marathon and New York Marathon winner, Joycilline Jepkosgei, per Katami Michelle.

Defending champion, Peres Jepchirchir is also on the list. The provisional team comes out months before the global showpiece, but it shows just how much talent Kenya has in the field.

What Obiri earned in New York Marathon

In November, veteran Kenyan athlete, Obiri outkicked Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey to win the 2023 New York City Marathon. Obiri clocked a time of 2:27:23 while Gidey finished in 2:27:29.

Obiri took home $100,000, which is over 15 million when converted to Kenyan shillings. With that win, she is one of the highest-earning Kenyan athletes in 2023 as Sports Brief earlier reported.

Obiri also won the 2023 Boston Marathon in April.

Kiptum shatters Kipchoge's record

Sports Brief also reported on Kelvin Kiptum obliterating Kipchoge's men's marathon world record at the 2023 Chicago Marathon.

He clocked 2:00:35 to take 34 seconds off the record and became the first person to run a marathon under 2 hours, one minute.

Kipchioge and Kiptum may go head-to-head in Paris next year for the big title after both were called up for their country.
