The American bagged three gold medals at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, last season. He succeded his compatriot, Fred Kerley, as the 100m world champion. He also defended his 200m world crown before anchoring Team USA to gold in the 4-by-100m relay race.

However, he failed to win the Diamond League trophy after 2019 World Champion Christian Coleman sprung a surprise in Eugene, Oregon.

Lyles credits his mother

In an interview with Sky Sports, the 26-year-old has now revealed how his mother, Keisha Caine, sacrificed everything to ensure he and his brother had successful careers.

"My Mum sacrificed a lot for me and my brother. She took jobs that weren't high-paying so that she could be close to us and watch us develop and make sure we were getting the right care."

Known for his confidence and straight-talking nature before and after races, Lyles also revealed his mental preparedness ahead of games.

"I usually have the idea that this moment is made for me. Not the other way around. I also believe that God has put forth everything that I need to succeed."

Lyles will now be chasing a first Olympic gold medal next year in Paris after collecting bronze in the 200m at the rescheduled Tokyo games.
