Kipochoge broke the world record last year in Berlin but was off the pace on Sunday, September 24. His compatriot Vincent Kipkemboi, who is making his marathon debut, finished second in 2:03.13 and Ethiopia's Tadese Takele finished third in 2:03.24.

Kenya's Ronald Korir finished fourth in 2:04:22.

2019 world bronze medalist and 2022 London Marathon champion Amos Kipruto finished 7th.

Kipchoge dominated most of the race, taking the lead early on alongside Ethiopia's Derseh Kindie. However, Kindie couldn't cope with Kipchoge's pace and dropped soon after.

The 38-year-old has now won the Berlin Marathon in 2023, 2022, 2017, 2018, and 2015.

Kipchoge is the greatest marathoner

By winning his 5th Berlin Marathon, Kipchoge has now won 16 of the 19 marathons that he has entered, per World Athletics. It will take years before another athlete can post such numbers.

He has run the marathon in under two hours, won two Olympic gold medals in the marathon and could make it a hat-trick in next year's 2024 Paris Olympics. He also holds the world record.

There aren't enough superlatives to describe Kipchoge's illustrious career. He could call it quits after the 2024 Olympics, concluding a legendary career.

Fastest marathoners of all time

Sports Brief earlier reported on the fastest male marathon runners of all time. Kipchoge holds the world record in the men's marathon.

Kelvin Kiptum produced one of the best marathon performances in April 2023 to win the London Marathon. He clocked

Ethiopian legend Kenenisa Bekele is the third fastest with 2:01:41.
