- Noah Lyles has sent a subtle warning to his rivals ahead of the Diamond League finals
- The triple world champion has confirmed that he will take part in the showdown on home soil
- Sha'Carri Richardson will also be out to follow her world triumph with a Diamond League victory
New world 100m champions, Noah Lyles and Sha'Carri Richardson have confirmed that they will participate in the upcoming Diamond League final in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
Dubbed the Prefontaine Classic, the event will take place on September 16 and 17 after the completion of 14 legs, which began on May 5 with the Doha meet.
Brussels will be the last stop this weekend before the athletes head to Eugene to compete in the 2023 finals. The finals, unlike the other meets, is a two-day event.
Lyles' heroics at the WAC
Lyles had earlier indicated that he was done for the season after winning three gold medals at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last month. The 26-year-old won the 100m, and defended his 200m title before anchoring Team USA to victory in the 4 by 100m relay.
He then headed to Zurich, where he won the 200m race before calling it quits on the 2023 season. However, he started dropping subtle hints that he might be available for another race before confirming his participation at the Prefontaine Classic.
"I am coming to the Prefontaine Classic. Let's go out with a bang!" He said on his X page.
Citius Mag has added that Richardson will be available for the meet as well. The 23-year-old shocked many when she floored experienced heavyweights Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to win the world title. She then followed it up with a bronze in the 200m before clinching gold in the 4 by 100m relay.
Current Diamond League standings
Christian Coleman dropped the fastest time this year to win the first-ever 100 metre men's Diamond League event in Xiamen, China, on September 2.
The 2019 champion equalled Noah Lyles' and Zharnel Hughes' times this season to finish ahead of Kishane Thompson and Fred Kerley.
Kerley tops the current Diamond League lists after finishing third in China. Sports Brief takes a look at what the men's 100m Diamond League standings look like ahead of the Eugene finals.
