FootballNoah Lyles Continues Impressive Streak, Wins Zurich Diamond League in Dominant Fashion
- Noah Lyles cemented his status as the best 200m runner at the moment with another win at a Diamond League event
- Lyles edged his international teammate, Erriyon Knighton, to win the Zurich Diamond League on August 31
- It was the first race he was competing in after winning three gold medals at the World Athletics Championships
Noah Lyles bagged the 200m men's Zurich Diamond League on Thursday evening to continue with his impressive streak in sprint races.
Lyles, who is fresh from winning three gold medals at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, clocked 19.80 seconds in Switzerland.
World silver medalist Erriyon Knighton finished second yet again with his 19.87 mark, the second-best of the night.
Briton Zharnel Hughes completed the podium places with a time of 19.94 seconds.
Lyles will have to postpone his ambition to break Usain Bolt's world record. He had promised to do so at the World Championships but could only manage a 19.52 in the final. Bolt's record, set in 2009, stands at 19.19.
Zurich DL: Jackson wins 200m
At the same time, Sports Brief has reported that Shericka Jackson comfortably won the women's 200m at the Zurich Diamond League days after winning the world title at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
Britain's Daryll Neita finished second, clocking 22.25 seconds. American Kayla White completed the top three after clocking 22.33 seconds.
Jackson broke her record last week and has been edging closer to Flo-Jo's world record set at the 1988 Olympic Games. The 29-year-old has been on a tear this year, and many feel it is only a matter of time until she breaks the world record.
Lyles' NBA comments
Noah Lyles has never been one to beat around the bush. He calls it as he sees it. He has been referred to as cocky- arrogant even.
The only thing working in his favour is that he has always been able to walk the talk. He promised to deliver three gold medals during the just-concluded World Athletics Championships in Budapest. Not only did he deliver, but he did so in breathtaking fashion.
The celebrations, however, quickly quietened down, with attention now focused on his post-race sentiments on the National Basketball Association (NBA).
