  • Kenyan track star Faith Kipyegon has big plans after the 2024 Olympics
  • She won two gold medals at the recent World Athletics Championships
  • Kipyegon solidified her place among history's greatest female athletes

Faith Kipyegon ended the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Hungary with two gold medals in the women's 1,500m and 5,000m, with those two performances cementing her status as one of Kenya's greatest-ever athletes.

The two gold medals were the icing on the cake of her astonishing three world records in the Diamond League circuit. By the time the 2024 Olympics end, Kipyegon could be the greatest female track athlete of all time and she has big goals after that.

If the 29-year-old Kenyan superstar retired today, a statue wouldn't do justice to her accomplishments. Her resume is almost flawless.

Kipyegon is a two-time Olympic champion in the women's 1,500m and three-time world champion in the 1,500m. She also won her first 5,000m in the 2023 World Athletics Championships and became the first woman to win gold in the 1,500m and 5,000m at the World Championships.

The Kenyan star eyeing another 1,500m title at the 2024 Olympics in Paris and certainly, a hat-trick of 1,500m Olympic titles would be incredible.

Kipyegon's goals for Paris 2024

Kipyegon is looking to round in a stupendous track career in Paris before switching to marathons.

"Expect more from me since I'm still strong... I will be moving to marathons after the Paris Olympics. I want to graduate slowly and be consistent in what I do... I want to push myself more not only for accolades in athletics but to empower young girls that everything is possible in life," she said via Daily Nation.

Kenyan athletes have dominated marathons for years, especially on the men's side. Eliud Kipchoge holds the marathon world record, while Brigid Kosgei holds the women's marathon world record.

It will take time for Kipyegon to adjust to the new discipline. Two-time 5,000m world champion, Helen Obiri transitioned to marathons and won the Boston Marathon in April - her second career victory in the long-distance event.

What Kipyegon earned for winning golds

Sports Brief previously reported on what Kipyegon earned for her gold medals at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

She won two gold medals, so she will be entitled to $140,000. When converted to Kenyan shillings, she will make over Ksh20 million (1USD=145Ksh).
