Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has received a refreshing boost after it emerged that she did not pick up a severe injury during the 4 by 100m women's relay race at the World Athletics Championships.
The Jamaican sprint queen had to seek medical attention immediately after running the second leg of the race on August 26.
Fraser-Pryce appeared to move with great difficulty in the dying seconds of her round but held on to pass the baton to Shashalee Forbes. They were, however, beaten to the gold medal by a Sha'Carri Richardson-powered USA, as reported by Sports Brief.
Early reports from the Jamaican camp have now indicated that the preliminary reports on Fraser-Pryce's tests on her right leg have shown that the injury is not as severe as initially feared.
Update on Fraser-Pryce's injury
Dr. Warren Blake, the team's medical personnel, allayed fears of another lengthy layoff for the 36-year-old.
"As you know, she sustained an injury to her leg and was taken to hospital where she was examined. The examination showed that the injury is not severe and she should progress quite fine," he said, as quoted by Jamaica Observer.
"She has started treatment and is currently resting. She walks and she’s in good spirits."
Fraser-Pryce's turbulent season
Fraser-Pryce has had limited participation on the track this year with a knee injury forcing her to start her season late. Prior to Budapest, she had only raced twice, in Switzerland and Spain, before taking bronze in her favourite 100m.

AthleticsShe elected to withdraw from the 200m to manage her workload before teaming up with Natasha Morrison, Forbes and two-time 200m champion Shericka Jackson in the relay race.
The Diamond League races are coming in thick and fast, but she is not expected to make it to Thursday's Zurich leg.
2023 World Athletics Championships medal ranking

Noah Lyles, Ryan Crouser, and Sha'Carri Richardson were among the athletes who claimed gold medals for the USA, with Lyles recording a historic three-peat.
Kenya finished the championships as the highest-ranked African nation. Faith Kipyegon became the first woman to win gold medals in the 1,500 metres and 5,000m before Mary Moraa powered to victory in the 800m on the final day.
