The American promised plenty, and he delivered, winning the men's 100m, 200m and 4x100 relay gold in Budapest. After his 200m victory, he blasted the NBA for calling themselves world champions, comments which seem to have infuriated NBA stars and fans.

He explained why he thinks the NBA teams and players shouldn't call themselves world champions.

"We [World Athletics Championships] are the world. We have almost every country out here fighting and thriving and putting on a flag to show that they are represented. There ain't no flags in the NBA," via Eurosport.

He is right. A total of 2100 athletes from 195 countries participated in the 2023 World Athletics Championships. Some NBA fans feel the NBA champions should be world champions because of the countries represented and the quality of the league.

NBA stars blast Noah Lyles

This weekend, many NBA stars took to social media to roast the American sprinter for his comments. Most of them seem to disagree with Lyles's remarks.

Phoenix Suns superstars Kevin Durant and Devin Booker did not hold back.

Durant wrote, "Somebody help this brother."
Aaron Gordon, the newly crowned NBA champion with the Denver Nuggets, added, "Whatever... I'm smoking buddy in the 200m."

Miami Heat star Tyler Herro took to X to respond to Noah Lyles.

"The NBA is the best league in the world. That's why the champs are 'world champs.'"

Damian Lillard and Juan-Toscano Anderson also blasted the sprinter.

The debate about how NBA teams refer to themselves has been going on for years and it won't end anytime soon.

Lyles equals Bolt's record

Sports Brief earlier reported on Lyles equaling Bolt's record after winning the 200m gold in Budapest.

Lyles joined Usain Bolt as the only man to win three consecutive 200m world titles. Bolt actually did it on four successive occasions during the height of his dominance from 2009 to 2015.

The other person to have three consecutive world titles is retired American all-rounder Allyson Felix.

Lyles also became the first person since Bolt in 2015 to win the 100m and 200m at the same Championships.
