AthleticsTobi Amusan: Women’s 100m Hurdles Record Holder Reacts After Losing to Williams in Budapest
- Tobi Amusan missed out on a podium finish after she emerged 6th in the Women’s 100m Hurdles event
- The world record holder was provisionally suspended by the AIU barely a month before the World Athletics Championships
- Having been cleared to run, the Nigerian athlete reached the final, where Jamaica’s Danielle Williams clinched gold
Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan, has disclosed that she will return and aim for gold at next year’s World Athletics Championships.
Amusan made the statement shortly after Jamaica’s Danielle Williams clinched gold in the Women’s 100m Hurdles in Budapest.
Having missed out on the medals, the 26-year-old stated that it was a journey reaching the final after all she went through just before the event.
She also thanked her family members for supporting her through the ordeal. Amusan told reporters via Complete Sports:
“It has been God, my team and my family. It’s a tough one; nobody likes to lose, but considering what I have gone through in the past couple of months, I’m so grateful that I came out.”
Danielle Williams of Jamaica won the Women’s 100-metre Hurdles when she crossed the finish line in 12.43 seconds. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn followed in 12.44s for silver, and Keni Harrison took the bronze in 12.46s.
How Amusan was provisionally suspended
Recall that in July, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) provisionally suspended Tobi Amusan for three missed whereabouts failures.
The suspension was announced after it was discovered that Amusan had missed three drug tests within 12 months. This charge carries a two-year suspension term, even if an athlete has never failed a drug test.
Ultimately, the Disciplinary Tribunal announced the verdict, as per Channels TV:
"Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period”.
