200m men's finalists at the World Athletics Championships survived a scare after two buggies carrying them collided on the way to the National Athletics Centre in Budapest.

The two open-top cars, which were being used to ferry the athletes to and from the Championships venue, surprisingly rammed into each other, forcing the semi-finals to be delayed.

Luckily, no major injuries were recorded, but Andrew Hudson, who was in semi-final 1 with defending champion Noah Lyles, appeared to get glass in his eye. The order of races was altered to allow the Jamaican to get some quick medical attention.

Newly-minted 100m champion Lyles, however, shrugged off the minor accident to record the fastest time of the round, clocking 19.76 seconds to storm into the final. Other finalists include his fellow podium finishers in the 100m, Letsile Tebogo and Zharnel Hughes. U-20 hotshot, Erryion Knighton and Olympic champion, Andre de Grasse will also be in the final, which is scheduled for August 25.

Hudson did not make it through to the semi-finals as one of the automatic qualifiers but was advanced to the finals due to the nature of his mishap in the accident.

200m women's

In the women's semi-finals, defending champion Shericka Jackson hardly got out of first gear to qualify for the finals. Jackson, who was for the second time in Budapest drawn in the 'Heat of Death' with Sha'Carri Jackson and Marie Jose Ta Lou, will be keen on claiming the 200m after bagging silver in the 100m.

Richardson, Ta Lou, and world leader Gabby Thomas will join Jackson in the final.

1500m women's final

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Kenya's Faith Kipyegon has won her third 1500m world title at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, capping off a sensational season.

The Kenyan superstar clocked 3:54.87, beating long-time rival Sifan Hassan, who finished third. Ethiopia's Diribe Welteji took silver.

The double Olympic champion led the race from start to finish, and the win was never in doubt. The world record holder is now one of the most decorated Kenyan athletes ever.
