The World Athletics Championships was graced with a unique incident as an athlete decided to propose to a competitor at the finish line in a walking race.

Slovakian walker, Hana Burzalova entered the race unbeknownst that she would be someone’s fiancé at the end of it. Her boyfriend, Dominik Cerny popped the question as she raced towards the finish line.

Cerny had just completed the men’s event himself, and decided to wait on his girlfriend at the women’s finish line.

The whole proposal was as awkward as it was sweet, and Cerny will be glad Burzalova still had enough breath in her to say yes to the big question.

Cameras captured the whole moment, which has since gone viral on social media platform Tiktok.

Regarding the races, Cerny came in 19th place in his race, which had some personal significance to him as he clocked a personal best time of 2:32.56.

His girlfriend, 22, did not fare quite as well in the women’s race as she came in 28th, but like Cerny, she also hit a milestone with a season's best of 3:02.47.

A quick tour of Cerny’s Instagram activity revealed that the chap was giving no hints on the imminent proposal to his girlfriend.

On his Instagram stories, he posted Burzalova with the caption, as per The Sun:

“Ouch, here we go again."

World Athletics, through their official Twitter handle, took to congratulate the couple as they posted photos of the engagement.
