Tobi Amusan posted the third fastest time overall in the Women’s 100m Hurdles heats at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Amusan won Heat 5 in 12.48s, executing a clean race to come through in the first round and into the semi-final ahead of Jamaica's Megan Tapper, who came second in 12.51s

Australia's Michelle Jenneke and Cypriot star Natalia Christofi who clocked 2.71s and 2.90s respectively, also qualified for the next round in the intense race.

Channels TV reports that Keni Harrison of the United States ran the fastest time in the Heats at 12.24s, and Amusan will need to be at her very best if she hopes to defend her title.

Last year, Amusan posted 12.12 seconds to surpass a world record set by Kendra Harrison’s 12.20 seconds in 2016 on her way to claiming the 100m hurdles title at the World Championships in Oregon, USA.

South Africa’s Marione Fourie qualifies

Sports Brief earlier reported that Marione Fourie is one step closer to qualifying for the Women’s 100m Hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

The South African was one of two athletes from the country competing in the heats for the event on Day 4 of the championships.

Fourie booked her place in the semi-final after she finished third in heat two, finishing in a time of 12.71s.
