World Athletics Championships: Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel Cruises to Men’s 400m Hurdles Semifinal

Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel has qualified for the Men's 400m Hurdles semifinal at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The 20-year-old breezed to a Season’s Best of 48.47s to secure one of the top 4 qualification spot in Heat 4.

It is a spark of hope for Nigeria after the country's record holder in the men's 400m Hurdles fought hard to secure a Top 4 finish while racing in the heat of his event.

Joshua Abaku of Germany won the race in 48.32s, while CJ Allen of the United States and Roshawn Clarke of Jamaica came second and third with 48.36s and 48.39s, respectively.

Ezekiel Nathaniel finished fourth in 49.47s to also proceed to the next stage.

Nigeria crashes out of Men’s 4x400m mixed relays

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s quartet, Dubem Nwachukwu, Patience Okon George, Ezekiel Nathaniel, and Imaobong Nse Uko, crashed out in the 4x400m mixed relay after finishing 7th in Heat 2, Vanguard reports.

Although the time of 3:14:38, which they ran, was a season-best, it was not enough to take even one of the non-automatic qualification spots.

Ese Brume qualifies for Women’s Long Jump final

Sports Brief earlier reported that Ese Brume is set to make history at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest after she leapt a distance of 6.72m to secure a spot in the final of the Long Jump event.

It is Brume’s third straight final in the competition's history, and the event is slated for Sunday evening.

She came fourth in Group A during the qualification heat to have a spot to compete in the final in the medals race.
