Since winning gold in the Olympic men's 100m final at Tokyo 2020 in 2021, Jacobs has struggled for consistency because of incessant injuries. Other sprinters from across the world have left him behind.

Jacobs's only 100m race from this year came in June in Paris, where he ran 10.21 and finished seventh. He defeated Kerley in Tokyo. He ran 100m in Tokyo in 9.80 seconds.

He withdrew from the semi-finals of the event at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, USA.

Kerley and Lyles call out Jacobs

Speaking at the press conference in Budapest, Hungary, Jacobs reflected on a difficult period in his career.

"I am in good shape for these Championships, and I am focused on what I need to do. I had to really work hard, remain focused on this World Championships because this is the only medal I am still missing in my collection so I would like to add it," via Olympics.

When asked about Jacobs, Kerley and Lyles dismissed the Italian per Jonathan Gault.

"I know what form he's in. We've all seen it," Lyles said.
Then Kerley: "Ain't nobody worried about him."

Kerley is the favorite to win the 100m, while Lyles is widely expected to win the 200m

The 'Big Two' appeared before reporters on August 18 in a Team USA press conference, with Kerley warning his compatriot that the 100m title was his.

Lyles fired back with a brutal response.
