UFCFerdinand Omanyala Sends Touching Message to Mark Odhiambo As He Makes His Return
- Ferdinand Omanyala left a message of support to Mark Odhiambo as he made his sprinting comeback
- Odhiambo has been away for two years serving a doping ban effected during the Tokyo Olympics
- He will be hoping to make up for the time lost by qualifying for next year's Paris Olympics
Ferdinand Omanyala has come out to openly express his support for fellow sprinter Mark Odhiambo as he makes his return to the track.
Odhiambo ran in his first race in Italy after serving a two-year doping ban that elapsed on August 1. The sprinter was suspended just before the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics in 2021 after the prohibited anabolic steroid methasterone was found in his sample.
The three-time national champion escaped a four-year ban with the panel ruling that he had no intention to dope as the prohibited substances were in his supplements.
He clocked 10.39 seconds to finish second in his first competitive race since 2021. A suspended athlete is not allowed to train or compete with other athletes.
The 30-year-old took to Twitter to express his satisfaction with making his return.
"I am humbled and grateful that I get to do this again. Came in 2nd with 10.39 for my first race back. The work continues. One step at a time!!"
His training partner before the ban and now Africa's fastest man, Omanyala, left a message of support.
"Happy to see you back! A great friend and competitor. Brothers in arms. One step at a time...."
Omanyala is currently preparing for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. Odhiambo is locked out of the Championships and will be looking forward to qualifying for the Paris Olympics next year.
