Ferdinand Omanyala had to settle for second at the Joskolauf meeting in Andorf, Austria, on Saturday afternoon, clocking a time of 10.07 seconds.

The fastest man in Africa was the fastest time in all of the six heats and in the latter heat, beat Eugene Amo-Dadzie, who finished in 10.16 seconds.

It is at the same meet where the Commonwealth Champion first ran his sub-10 race, clocking times of 9.96 seconds and 9.86 seconds in 2021.

This was Omanyala's last competitive race ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest next month. He will now head to Team Kenya's training camp in Miramas.

Omanyala's recent Diamond League win

Prior to this, Omanyala won his first Diamond League race when he outmuscled former World U20 record-holder, Letsile Tebogo, at the Monaco meet on July 21.

That win saw him secure his spot at the Diamond League finals in Oregon in September.

In Budapest, Omanyala will be a prime candidate for a podium finish as he seeks to become the first African to win a medal in the 100-metre race of the championships.

He will face stiff competition from the reigning champion Fred Kerley, world 200m Champion Noah Lyles, and South Africa's Akani Simbine, among others.

Michael Johnson backs Omanyala

Sports Brief previously reported on former Olympic and world champion, Michael Johnson backing Omanyala for success ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Africa's fastest man will head to Hungary next month as one of the favourites in the men's 100-metre discipline, after rising rapidly through the ranks as a sprinter since 2021.

Omanyala is currently the fastest man on the African continent with a time of 9.77 seconds, as captured by World Athletics, and is the African and Commonwealth Champion.
