American sprinter Noah Lyles appears to have taken a subtle dig at Usain Bolt following his impressive victory in the 200-meter race at the London Diamond League.

The 26-year-old athlete surpassed his own previous record of 19.67 seconds, which he had set at the Kingston Grand Prix in May.

With this remarkable win, he now sets his sights on completing a double at the upcoming World Athletics Championships next month.

According to NBCSports, Lyles faced tough competition from Letsile Tebogo, the World U-20 Champion from Botswana, who finished closely behind with a time of 19.50 seconds.

Meanwhile, Britain's Zharnel Hughes achieved a podium place and set a new national record, finishing at 19.73 seconds, the Guardian reports.

Lyles breaks Bolt's record

Notably, Lyles' victory on Sunday propelled him past Usain Bolt's record for the most wins in the 200 meters under 20 seconds.

Prior to the race, both Lyles and the legendary Jamaican athlete had an equal number of 34 wins each in sub-20 races, amplifying the significance of Lyles' recent accomplishment.

In addition to his victory, he established a fresh meet record, surpassing Bolt's record he had previously set on the same course back in 2008 when the iconic sprinter clocked in at 19.76 seconds.

What Lyles said after win?

Lyles has often made headlines away from the track with his strong sense of fashion and his banter, and his strong opinions on Twitter.

Unsurprisingly, he promptly turned to the micro-blogging app to share his emotions following his remarkable achievement in London.

With confidence, he proudly displayed his time, stating, "19.47 And that was just the warning shot."

Lyles opens up on Bolt conversation

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Noah Lyles has shed light on his conversation with Usain Bolt when the two met during the Racers Grand Prix in Kingston, Jamaica.

The American bulldozed his way to victory and finished 0.47 seconds ahead of his closest challenger.

So good was his performance that Bolt, who was among the fans at the National Stadium, stood up and shared a warm embrace with the 200-metre World Champion.
