FootballShelly Ann Fraser Pryce Sets New Record in Spain Ahead of World Championships, Video
- Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won her second race in a week, bagging a World Athletics meet in Spain
- The five-time world champion is seemingly hitting top gear ahead of the Championships in Budapest next month
- A knee injury has restricted her performance this season as she steps back to full fitness
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce powered to victory at the Continental Tour Gold in Madrid on Saturday evening to win her second 100 metres race of the season.
It has been a slow start to the season for the Jamaican, who made her comeback in the middle of the week after starting her season with an injury.
Fraser-Pryce used a time of 10.82 seconds at the Spitzenleichtathletik in Luzern, Switzerland, on Thursday, her third-fastest opener ever in her career. She then clocked 10.83 seconds in Madrid to set a new record at the meeting.
The previous record of 10.92 seconds was set by Barbara Pierre in 2013.
A knee injury has restricted the 36-year-old's season, but she will be feeling confident ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest next month.
"I feel good. I'm happy to have had two very solid races this week. Now I'm going to focus on Budapest. I'm not 100% recovered from my injury yet, I must say, but I'm going to give it my all and focus on myself," as captured by Supersport.
In Madrid, Jael Sakura Bestue from Spain came in second with 11.10 seconds, with Jamaicaa's Shashalee Forbes finishing in third place with 11.11 seconds.
Fraser-Pryce responds to Richardson's wig removal
Sports Brief previously reported that Fraser-Pryce gave a hilarious response when asked whether she will ever remove her wig before a race.
The question came about after newly-minted United States Champion, Sha'Carri Richardson, removed her wig during the national trials last week.
Richardson, who was spotting a red wig, disposed of it on the track just before she ran. Her new status as national champion means that she will, for the first time in her career, compete in a major championship.
