Fresh off beating 2023 World Championships rival, Jamaica's Shericka Jackson, at the Silesia Diamond League meet in Poland, USA 100m champion, Sha’Carri Richardson, has been stunned in Hungary by lesser-known Julien Alfred.
Richardson finished second in a time of 10.97 seconds behind Saint Lucia's Alfred, who won the race in 10.89 secs.
Alfred made a terrific start to the race, unlike Richardson, who couldn't be saved by her incredible top-end speed witnessed in Poland on Sunday.
The 23-year-old American did not seem able to catch the Saint Lucian at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, per World Athletics.
That performance may affect her confidence ahead of the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Poland.
It could also be a blip for the USA 100m champion, who recently set a personal best of 10.71 seconds at her country's Track and Field Outdoor Championships.
Richardson beats Jackson
Over the weekend, Richardson was on top form as she stunned world 200m champion, Jackson, in Poland. The American clocked 10.76, overtaking the Jamaican, who finished second in 10.78 seconds, per Olympics.
Jackson is the fastest woman in 100m this year. She ran 10.65 seconds at the Jamaican Championships but has lost twice against Richardson this year.
The showdown in Poland is a taste of what we should expect at the World Championships. It is important to note that world champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, has not raced much this year. She is set to defend her title next month.

AthleticsSports Brief also reported on Fraser-Pryce reacting to Richardson's wig incident. The American discarded her red wig on the track just before she ran.
Richardson's new status as American national champion means that she will, for the first time in her career, compete in a major championship.
Fraser-Pryce, who is also known for sporting bold wigs on race days, remarked that if she ever removes it during a race, it won't be of her own doing.
