Sha'Carri Richardson gained attention last week Friday, not only for winning the 100m race, but for another eye-catching action.

The American sprint star said goodbye to her recognisable orange wig after her introduction on the starting line at the track during the US Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

The 23-year-old then went ahead to win the US 100-meter title in 10.82 seconds on Friday, July 7, Marca reported.

According to Richardson, she had a special intention behind her startling gesture.

"The reason why I did the wig reveal, I had my orange hair last time, I wanted to show I'm still that girl but I'm better, stronger and wiser," she explained to Real Talk with Tee, via Sportskeeda.
"I had to shed the old and present the new."

Richardson is an ace track and field sprinter, who specializes in 100m and 200m races. She is marking a high point that comes two years after her national title was stripped because of a doping violation.

Fraser-Pryce responds to Sha'Carri

Meanwhile, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has given a hilarious response when asked whether she will ever remove her wig before a race.

As reported by Sports Brief, the question came about after Richardson removed her wig during the national trials last week.

Fraser-Pryce, who is also known for sporting bold wigs on race days, remarked that if she ever removes her wig during a race, it won't be of her own doing.

Sha'Carri Richardson's new record

Meanwhile, Richardson's renaissance continued with another blistering run on the opening day of the United States Track and Field Championships, Sports Brief reported earlier.

Richardson ran the fastest time in the 100-metre event this year, clocking 10.71 seconds to win Heat 1 at the championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Her time in Oregon is now the World Lead in the women's 100m, smashing Marie Jose Ta Lou's record of 10.75 seconds set in the Diamond League.
