Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala destroyed the 100m field in the Kenya national athletics championships to retain his title. He has now won three national titles.

The 27-year-old clocked 9.96 seconds to storm to victory, his seventh sub-10 race this season. He is ramping up preparations for the World Athletics championships slated for August.

His opponents had no chance in the race. Meshack Babu came second, clocking 10.50, while Hesbon Ochieng completed the podium in 10.58, per Daily Nation.

The African 100m record holder has finished in the top three in each of his three Diamond League races in Rabat, Florence, and Paris. Omanyala is yet to win a race in the Diamond League after he made his debut in 2021.

He recently said his goal is to win gold in the upcoming world championships in Hungary.

Omanyala reacts to another triumph

Speaking after the race, he was delighted with his win and is now focusing on the upcoming global championships

"It's been a great championship where I just came to enjoy and I am happy I achieved my target of a sub-10 seconds in the final," he said. "it shows that my body is in great shape and all the way to the world championships."

Omanyala said he is going to compete at the Monaco Diamond League meet, which is set for July 21.

"I'm now done with racing for the next few weeks before my next race in Monaco."

Omanyala leads Diamond League standings

At the same time, Sports Brief reported that Ferdinand Omanyala is on course to qualify for the Diamond League finals, with the Commonwealth champion leading the standings after five legs.

Omanyala raced in his second-ever Diamond League race when he took part against an elite field at the Rabat Diamond League on May 28.

He then followed it up with back-to-back races in Florence, Italy and Paris, France.
