Divine Oduduru Suspended By AIU and Could Be Banned for Six Years

Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) have suspended Nigerian athlete Divine Oduduru indefinitely and he could also be banned for six years from competing when the result of their investigation comes out.

The 26-year-old has been accused of using prohibited substances that is against the game and he could even face more punishment if found guilty.

This latest development is not a cheering one for Nigerians considering the fact that Blessing Okagbare is still under ban for 11 years due to doping.

What went wrong for Oduduru?

Oduduru was said to have used some substances to compete for Nigeria at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In Tokyo, Oduduru was disqualified in the heats of the men’s 100m for a false start, before narrowly missing the final of the men’s 200m.

According to the report on Thisday, the doping agency have asked the Nigerian athlete to step aside pending when an announcement will be made on their investigation.

Oduduru holds personal bests of 9.86 seconds for the 100 m and 19.73 seconds for the 200m.

In age category competitions, he was a twice-champion at the African Youth Athletics Championships.
