It was a nice touch from one champion to another as it came at a time when City are themselves struggling to defend their credentials as premier league title holders.

Kipchoge, as TUKO.co.ke reported, gained worldwide recognition as he is the first man to break the 42 kilometer marathon record in his time of 01:59:40.

He previously held the official marathon world record of 2:01:39, set in Berlin, Germany in 2018.

This was not his first attempt as he also missed out during the Italian Grand Prix circuit at Monza in 2017 by a mere 25 seconds.

The race was quite unique as Kipchoge was assisted by a total of 42 pacemakers, including Olympic 1500m champion Matthew Centrowitz and Olympic 5,000m silver medallist Paul Chelimo.
