- Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge has been nominated for the World Athlete of the Year after breaking his own record
- Kipchoge will vie for the award against other world beaters such as Mondo Duplantis and Noah Lyles
- 1500 meters ace Faith Kipyegon wasn't as lucky in the female category as she missed out on the final shortlist
World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge has made the final shortlist for the Male Athlete of the Year 2022.
The list was announced by World Athletics ahead of the announcement of the final winner on December 5th.
Kipchoge made the list after shattering his own World Marathon Record at the Berlin Marathon by running a time of 2 hours, 1 minute and 09 seconds.
The shortlist has some other similarly high-profile names, including World and Olympic steeplechase champion Soufiane El Bakkali, World Pole Vault champion and record holder Mondo Duplantis, world 200m champion Noah Lyles and world 5000m champion Jakob Ingebrigsten.

Faith Kipyegon misses out
Faith Kipyegon wasn't as lucky in the women's category. The World and Olympic 1500 meters champion was nominated in an earlier list of 10 athletes but missed out on the final list.
Kipyegon had another impressive year after she became a double world champion after her exploits in Oregon. Her only misdoing was that other female athletes understandably had better seasons than her. er race in Monaco, where she almost broke the World record, could have titled the tie in her favour.

In her place, Nigerian sprint sensation Tobi Amusan and 400 meters champion Sydney McLaughlin were nominated among others.
Sports Brief had reported that following her record-breaking feat during the course of the year, incredible Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan has made the Women's 2022 World Athlete Award final list.

FootballDuring the World Athletics Championships, the 25-year-old shocked the globe by setting a new world record in the women's 100m hurdles.
The Commonwealth gold medalist has been named among the five finalists for the prestigious international award, according to a statement released by World Athletics on Monday.
Other nominees are Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Triple Jump World Champion Yulimar Rojas and Race Walk Champion Kimberly Garcia.
