Commonwealth Games: Incredible Ese Brume Sets New Record to Win Gold in Women’s Long Jump

Nigerian athlete Ese Brume has clinched the gold medal in the Women’s Long Jump event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Having made a no jump in her first attempt, Brume bounced back in her second to jump 6.99m to take the lead in the final and set a new Games Record.

In her subsequent attempts, she had 6.81m, 6.99m, and 6.96m and none of her opponents could match or surpass her, thereby securing gold with a jump to spare.

On her last attempt at the games, the 26-year-old made a 7m leap in another record to become the first woman to jump that far in the history of the Commonwealth Games.

Channels TV reports that the impressive Brume has been Nigeria’s most-consistent athlete over the past four years.

She burst onto the scene by winning gold as an 18-year-old at the 2014 commonwealth games in Glasgow but could not defend her title four years ago in the Gold Coast in Australia.

Team Nigeria wins gold in Women’s 4X100m

Meanwhile, the quartet of Tobi Amusan, Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma, and Grace Nwokocha with a time of 42.10s has just won 4x100m relay gold breaking the African record.

This came about an hour after Amusan won the Women's 100m Hurdles ahead of Devyne Charlton who was 2nd in 12.58s, just edging Cindy Sember in 3rd with 12.59s.

Great start from Tobi Amusan, Favour Ofili was superb in the second and then Rosemary Chukwuma made a breathtaking run in their third before Grace Nwokocha finished up nicely.

Sprinter Joseph-Paul Amoah wins bronze for Ghana in 200m finals

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Joseph Paul Amoah made the podium of the 2022 Commonwealth Games after claiming bronze in the 200m race.

The Ghanaian sprinter finished third in the 200m final with a time of 20.49s to win bronze behind England's Zharnel Hughes and Trinidad and Tobago's Jareem Richards.

In photos posted on social media, the Ghanaian athlete was filled with joy as he chalked a piece of history at the Commonwealth Games.
