  • Athletics is proving to be a steady source of medals for Team Africa at the 2022 Commonwealth Games
  • With medals of all hues having rolled in yesterday, the hope is that more will come in on Day 7
  • Athletics is where the continent is at its strongest, and another impressive display is expected here

Day 6 of the Commonwealth was glorious for Africa in the track and field.

Kenya's Ferdinand Omanyala and South Africa's Akani Simbine pulled off a one-two in the men's 100m final to seal gold and silver medal wins respectively in the day's highlight. Day 7 will hopefully deliver more of the same in this regard.

Commonwealth Games: Team South Africa narrowly misses out on podium place in women’s medley relay

Team South Africa's fairytale run in the aquatic centre at the Commonwealth Games sadly didn't end on a high note.

As reported by Sports Brief, the South Africans narrowly missed out on a medal in the Women's 4x100 Medley Relay as they were pipped to the bronze medal by England. Rebecca Meder, Lara van Niekerk, Erin Gallagher, and Aimee Canny pushed the hosts all the way but were beaten right at the end.

Australia took the win in the event, with Canada finishing second.
