Benjamin Azamati is through to the finals of the 2022 Commonwealth Games after finishing third in the semi-finals of heat 3.

The 24-year-old runner clocked a time of 10.18 to seal one of the automatic spots for the final, which happens later tonight.

Azamati, who is appearing at the Commonwealth Games for the first time, will compete with Africa's fastest man Fredinand Omanyala for gold.

Meanwhile, compatriot Sean Sarfo-Antwi failed to make the finals after finishing fifth in the semi-final with a time of 10.36m.

However, he will line up alongside Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah and Oduro Manu for the 4x100m race.

Benjamin Azamati finishes first in heat 7 at Birmingham 2022

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Benjamin Azamati made light work of his rivals in heat 7 of the 100m race at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The 24-year-old finished the heat with an impressive time of 10.18s to qualify for the semi-finals.

In a video posted on social media, the runner blistered past his opponents and will now be waiting for his next race on Wednesday.

Home hero Ferdinand Omanyala will have the chance to compete for gold at the Commonwealth Games after qualifying for the 100 metres finals in style.

Omanyala won the second heat of the semifinals with a time of 10.02 seconds to book his place in the final that will be held later tonight.

The African record holder and champion has now won back-to-back races in the preliminary rounds of the Games after equally finishing first in round 1 yesterday.
