- Kipchoge has received yet another nomination after his heroic performance at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021

- He has been nominated for the Laureus Sportsman of the Year Award alongside the likes of Robert Lewandowski and F1 driver Max Verstappen
Eliud Kipchoge has been nominated for yet another prestigious award, this time battling it out with the likes of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
The marathoner considered the greatest ever in that field, is among the nominees for the Laureus Sportsman of the Year Award.
His heroics in the Tokyo games in 2021 seem to still be earning the marathoner recognition.
F1's Max Verstappen is also among the nominees for the prestigious award.
Laureus Sport revealed on Wednesday, February 2 the official list of nominees and Kipchoge was among the six selected.
Others included NFL player Tom Brady, Bayern Munich footballer Robert Lewandowski, Formula One world champion Verstappen, tennis player Novak Djokovic and swimmer Caleb Dressel.
Kipchoge’s deserved nomination
Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kipchoge somehow overcame the odds to shine brightest at the Olympics and earn Kenya yet another medal in the marathons.
Notably, the 36-year-old became only the third athlete to successfully defend his Olympic gold at the marathon.
He did it in style as well, clocking an impressive 2 hours, 8 minutes, 38 seconds - a massive 1 minute, 20 seconds before his closest rival Abdi Nageeye.
Thompson-Herah nominated
In the women’s category, Olympic champions Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica and America’s Allyson Felix will battle it out for the Sportswoman of the Year award.
Elaine Thompson-Herah is a heavy favourite, having already been crowned the World Female Athlete of the Year.
She had the Olympics of her dreams in Tokyo last year thanks to her triple gold medal-winning performance that saw her win the 100m, 200m and 4x100m.

FootballOther nominees in the women’s category include swimmers Emma McKeon and Katie Ledecky, tennis player Ashleigh Barty and Barcelona football player Alexia Putellas.
Kiprop aiming for comeback after ban
In other news, Sports Brief reported of Asbel Kiprop's intentions to get back on track after completing his four year ban over alleged doping.
Effective Wednesday, February 2, Kiprop will be eligible to compete in games after serving the lengthy ban.
In a statement on his Facebook Page, Kiprop said he was looking forward to what he termed a ‘transparent comeback and gradual progress’.
