The head coach of Yanga SC, Manuel Gamondi, has expressed disappointment in the match officials that handled their second-leg CAF Champions League game against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Gamondi turned his post-match press conference into a fiery battlefield, blasting the referee and VAR officials for denying his side what be termed a 'clear goal'.

Both teams failed to score over two legs, but Sundowns went on to win 3-2 via a penalty shootout.

Uninterested in entertaining questions, Gamondi lambasted Mauritian referee Dahane Beida for failing to see a review from the pitch-side VAR monitor.

Yanga SC thought they had taken the lead when Aziz Ki effort beat Ronwen Williams in goal. Television replay shows the ball crossed the line, but the match official relied solely on a message from the VAR room.

The goal was denied, infuriating coach Gamondi who accused the match referee of robbery.

The coach said via Soccer24:

“Why the referee doesn’t go to check himself [on the VAR]? He wanted to check only if it was a yellow card or a red card for Lomalisa [Mutambala when he brought down Khuliso Mudau].

“If you want to defend the credibility of African football, start with that, winning the game and winning clear. I think people who were on the VAR stole the pride of the people of Tanzania.

“We were robbed clear."
