Former Super Eagles Striker Advises NFF As Desperate Search for Super Eagles Coach Continues

• Peter Ijeh has sent his piece of advice to the NFF who are in search of a new Super Eagles coach
• The Nigerian football body failed to seal a fresh agreement with Peseiro whose deal expired in February
• After going public in search of a new gaffer, Ijeh has had his say over the delicate situation

Former Nigerian international, Peter Ijeh, has told the Nigeria Football Federation to shortlist the right candidate to become the next Super Eagles coach.

The search is on for a new head coach for the Nigerian national team after Jose Peseiro's contract with the football body expired at the end of February.

Emmanuel Amuneke and Finidi George are among ex-internationals who have reportedly applied for the plum job, amid calls for a foreigner to lead the team, Daily Post reports.

Former Super Eagles star, Ijeh, cautioned that getting the right candidate should be the target for the NFF board.

The 46-year-old former Vargarda IK of Sweden manager added that Nigerian football should have gone beyond searching for coaches.

He told Sports Brief:

"It is important to select and shortlist applicants with the right and required qualifications for the position and capacity and portfolio for development.

"The custodians should have gone past this huddle if they’d created a coaching building block for Nigerian coaches including Nigerian coaches in the diaspora. "

Despite being eligible to put in his application for the position, Ijeh stated that he applied to take charge of the Golden Eaglets instead.

He added:

"My qualifications are equal to the task if drafted to the Super Eagles, but I did not apply for the Super Eagles job.

"Instead, I applied for the U17 and I'm passionately ready to deliver at any given time."

NFF eyes Portuguese Antonio Conceicao

Sports Brief in a previous report stated that the NFF is tilting toward appointing Portuguese coach, Antonio Conceicao, as the next Nigeria gaffer.

The 62-year-old is among the flurry of managers who applied to take over as coach of the Super Eagles.

Conceicao was most recently the coach of the Cameroon national team.
