Portuguese manager, Jose Peseiro, has ruled out the possibility of returning as Super Eagles coach and also shared his view on Victor Osimhen's future.

The former FC Porto coach led Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast but lost 2-1 to the host nation.

With his contract ending after the competition's final, the Portuguese failed to reach an agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation for a contract extension and decided to leave.

Rumours claimed the NFF was renegotiating with Peseiro for his return, but the ex-Saudi Arabia national team coach has come out to deny talks about returning, according to a report by Sport Italia, as per All Nigeria Soccer.

"As I said, my work with the Super Eagles is over," he said.
"It was satisfying to coach footballers of such quality; with my staff, we managed to do well in this sense, but the time has come to move on to another project."

The former Real Madrid assistant coach went further to share his thoughts on Victor Osimhen's future amid links with top European sides Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain.

"Victor [Osimhen] is a formidable player. Even though he scored only one goal [in the competition], he was essential to theNigeria's success in the Africa Cup of Nations [in Ivory Coast]," the Portuguese coach added.
"He was a true team player who fought until the last minute of the game for victory. I think he will have several clubs interested at the end of the season, and only he and his club can decide on his future."

NFF eyes another Portuguese coach

Sports Brief also reported that the NFF has identified Portuguese coach, Antonio Conceicao, as the favourite to replace Peseiro as Super Eagles manager.

The 62-year-old has previously achieved success with the Cameroon national team, leading them to a third-place finish at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
