Cameroon is again in the spotlight for accusations of age fraud.

A player earmarked as being one for the future has found himself in the middle of a dispute.

Wilfried Nathan Doualla has been dropped from Victoria United's squad for their upcoming Championship playoff, with Cameroon's FA stating he is under investigation for age fraud.

The Indomitable Lions winger was an unused substitute throughout AFCON 2023 as Rigobert Song's team exited at the Round of 16 phase to eventual winners, Nigeria.

He is one of 62 players who has been mentioned in the latest incident age-related scandal to come out of Cameroon and Africa, with one media house reporting that some were as much as 10 years older than claimed.

The country's FA - FECAFOOT - posted on X (formerly Twitter) the list of players that will no longer participate this season. Above the names, the AllezLesLions post read:

"62 players, including Nathan Douala and several other internationals, are provisionally declared ineligible by FECAFOOT for the play-offs for dual identity."

MTN Elite One Group B team, Yong Sports Academy, are the most affected, as they have 13 players named among the 62.

Doualla's Victoria United are joint second on the list with AS Fortuna. There are 12 other teams across the league that have five or fewer affected players.

When Samuel Eto'o took the top job at FECAFOOT, he acknowledged age cheating was a big problem in the West African nation, as per The Athletic.

Cameroon youth flagged for age fraud

Sports Brief previously reported on an instance where 66% of Cameroon's youth players were declared over age.

Cameroon faced penalties after 21 out of the 30 players in the under-17 national team were caught for age fraud.

MRI scans following qualifiers for the 2023 U17 AFCON revealed that the players were not as old as was claimed.
