The Nigerian table tennis team have failed to win the gold medal in the men's and women's category final at the ongoing African Games 2023 in Ghana.

In the men's division, Aruna Quadri failed to lead the Nigerian team, which comprises him, Olajide Omotayo, and Taiwo Matti, against the Egyptian trio of Omar Assar, Youssef Abdelaziz and Mohamed El-Beiali.

The Egyptian team took the first game as Assar defeated Omotayo 3-0, while Quadri also fell to Abdelaziz in the second game in a 3-1 loss.

El-Beiali completed the rout as he edged past Matti in a 3-1 win in the third game to finish a 3-0 win for the Egyptian men's team.

In the women's division, the Egyptian trio of Dina Meshref, Hana Goda and Marian Alhodaby got the better of the Nigerian team, comprising Offiong Edem, Hope Udoaka and Fatimo Bello, in the final.

The Egyptian women, just like their male counterparts, defeated the Nigerian team 3-0 in the final, according to a report by the Daily Post.

The Egyptian women's table tennis team have dominated the event since overtaking Nigeria at the 2019 African Games in Maputo, Mozambique.
