William Troost-Ekong’s injury setback has not been taken lightly by his club side, PAOK, after it was confirmed that the defender is set to miss the rest of the 2023/24 season.
The 30-year-old injured his hamstring at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations but pushed on despite the setback to lead Nigeria to win the silver medal at the competition in Ivory Coast.
According to Own Goal Nigeria, PAOK are demanding compensation from FIFA for the injury suffered by Troost-Ekong while on international duty representing Nigeria at the AFCON.
The Greek club are expected to demand €20,548 (£18,008) per day for the length of time he will be out, with FIFA's compensation cutting out at €7.5 million (£66.57mil) for each player.

FIFA usually pay out to clubs who lose players for longer than 28 days because of their involvement in international competitions for their respective countries.
Troost-Ekong undergoes successful surgery
Meanwhile, Super Eagles vice-captain, Troost-Ekong has undergone a successful surgery in Finland to treat the injury he suffered during the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, Leadership reports.
The PAOK defender ruptured his biceps femoris in his right leg during Nigeria’s second game against the Elephants but caused further damage to the injury after deciding to play on in the tournament.
Ekong is expected to return to Greece to begin a period of rehabilitation after the successful minor surgery and is not expected to be back in action for PAOK until the end of the season.
Ekong suffers season-ending injury
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ekong will be out for the season after scan results showed the Super Eagles vice-captain aggravated the hamstring injury he suffered at the AFCON.
