FootballBassey, Iwobi Help Fulham Sink Manchester United After AFCON Disappointment
- Fulham picked up three points. Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford
- Super Eagles stars Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi scored the goals
- They put behind the disappointment of losing the AFCON final
Super Eagles stars Calvin Bassey and Alexander Iwobi were Fulham's heroes as they secured vital three points by beating Manchester United in front of the Old Trafford crowds.
The Nigerian stars recently returned from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they disappointedly lost the final to host Ivory Coast 2-1 after an outstanding tournament.
Per Mirror UK, it was head coach Marco Silva’s first win away at Old Trafford in the Premier League, and he got it in a dramatic fashion with a late winner.
United were a bit out of shape after injury to high-flying striker Rasmus Hojlund. Erik ten Hag opted to give a debut to youngster Omari Forson instead.

Bassey and Iwobi win it for Fulham
Bassey opened the scoring in the 65th minute after he was left unmarked for Timothy Castagne’s corner. His first effort was blocked by a teammate before blasting the second into the roof of the net.
United were motivated by the home fans and got one back through English defender Harry Maguire, and it looked like ten Hag's men were destined for a draw at home.
A counter ensued, and Adama Traore skipped past Christian Eriksen and Maguire before laying a pass onto the path of Iwobi, who wrongfooted Diogo Dalot and Amad Diallo before leaving Andre Onana rooted to the spot.
The goals and the win provided succour for the Innit Boys, who were on the receiving end of harsh criticisms from their fellow citizens after the AFCON final loss.
