  • Cristiano Ronaldo was snubbed from IFFHS 2023 top 10 players
  • Ronaldo did not take it lightly and laughed off the rankings on IG
  • Man City star Erling Haaland was named the best player of the year

Cristiano Ronaldo appears unhappy with the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) after being omitted from the top 10 best 2023 players.

Ronaldo moved to the Saudi Pro League in January after his Manchester United contract was mutually terminated following an explosive interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan.

He pioneered the influx of many top European stars into the league, including Neymar Jr and Sadio Mane, among others, who admitted he was influential in their moves.

The Saudis also attempted to poach Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, but their attempts were unsuccessful as Mbappe remained at PSG and Messi moved to Inter Miami.

Ronaldo laughs off IFFHS ranking

Per IFFHS, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is the 2023 Player of the Year, edging out Mbappe and Messi, who placed second and third respectively, rearranging the Ballon d’Or podium.

Treble winner Rodri and Kopa Trophy winner Jude Bellingham were fourth and fifth. Kevin De Bruyne, Harry Kane, Bernardo Silva, Vinicius Jr and Lautaro Martinez completed the rest of the top 10.

Ronaldo was left out of the top 10, with Silva the only Portuguese on the list, and this has sparked a mockery reaction from the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

He commented three laugh emojis and one facepalmed emoji under A Bola Portugal’s Instagram post, appearing to call the list a joke for excluding him.

The former Real Madrid star has scored 53 goals for club and country in 2023, the ‘highest’ of any player and won the Arab Club Champions Cup with Al-Nassr.
