FootballJose Mourinho Downplays Lukaku and Osimhen’s Comparisons to Drogba
- AS Roma and Napoli will battle it out at the Stadio Olimpico later tonight
- The match will have Romelu Lukaku and Victor Osimhen facing each other
- Jose Mourinho has praised both but refused to compare them to Didier Drogba
Jose Mourinho is not a fan of comparison among his players, and he has proven that once again by declining comments that would have made him compare Victor Osimhen and Romelu Lukaku to Didier Drogba.
AS Roma and Napoli will slug it out later tonight at the Stadio Olimpico, a match that will have two of the best strikers in the world try to win it for their teams.
Both teams are separated by two points on the Italian Serie A table as they try to move into European positions with a win later today.
Mourinho refuses player comparisons
As quoted by AS Roma, Mourinho analysed Osimhen and Lukaku, differentiated their qualities, but admitted they are very good players and two of the best in the world in their position.
“They are both fantastic forwards. They’re brilliant but different. One drops off and links up with his team-mates. The other is a more direct player who tries to get in behind. They’re both wonderful players. Serie A should be very pleased to have them both. They are top players who could play in any other league in the world without question,” he said.
The interviewer went further to ask him if his former striker, Drogba, was better than both, but he refused to be drawn into comparison.
“He was different. They are all different players. It’s hard to compare but I’ve never enjoyed comparing top players. Osimhen is the best African player at the moment. Didier was the best African player for many years and Lukaku has African parents, but he’s a European player. Either way, he’s one of the best players in the world. We’re talking about top footballers,” he added.
