  • Aston Villa dominated and beat Manchester City 1-0 at Villa Park
  • It was City's 4th consecutive Premier League game without a win
  • Pep Guardiola set two unwanted records in his managerial career

Manchester City were at their unusual worst last night during their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa, who deservedly took all three points after dominating the majority of the game.

The loss was Manchester City’s fourth consecutive Premier League game without a win, picking up three points from the draws against Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool.

Villa’s dominance was not reflected in the scoreline. The game could have easily been a thrashing for Pep Guardiola’s side, who were second best in everything against Unai Emery’s side.

Per Sky Sports, it was Emery’s first win over Pep in 14 games, having previously lost nine and drawn four of his last 13 attempts against the former Barcelona manager.

Man City set unwanted records for Guardiola

Per Opta, City played two shots, the least by Guardiola’s side in a league game in his 535 games managed in Europe’s top five leagues, and conceded 22 shots, the most in the same period.

City's two shorts came in the 11th minute. Erling Haaland had a quick double, both of which were saved by Argentinian goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

The former Bayern Munich manager did not shy away from responsibility and admitted his team were second-best in the encounter.

“Aston Villa were better. They played a fantastic game. We struggled to make our passes and be aggressive in some moments in behind. The better team won,” he said.

Next for the Citizens is an away trip to Kenilworth Road to face newly-promoted Luton Town. Spanish midfielder Rodri, whom many hinged Manchester City’s struggles on, expected to return to action.

Guardiola confronts referee

Sports Brief previously reported on Guardiola confronting referee Chris Kavanaugh after Manchester City's elimination from the Carabao Cup by Newcastle United.

He registered his displeasure with the official over his management of the game after his opponent got away with many kicks and fouls in the second half, which only resulted in two yellow cards.
